Untersuchung einer Bronzespitze aus den Mallnitzer Tauern

摘要

In 1976 a mountain hiker found a bronze peak on a path in the Mallnitz Tauern. Since the site was near a well-known Roman route, it is assumed that it is a Roman artifact.

A metallographic examination revealed that the bronze has high porosity, which is probably due to gas development caused by oxygen or hydrogen. The tip is corroded, and the original metal has a Sn content of about 4% by weight.

The bronze has solidified dendritically and shows small Cu2S precipitates in the interdendritic areas. Common enrichment of Sn was observed in the corroded areas.
