Introducing the Materials Center Leoben

The founding idea of the Materials Center Leoben (MCL) was to combine the strengths of the leading materials research institutions in Austria. To this end, a joint cooperative materials research center was created with the MCL in 1999. The spirit of this grandiose and far-sighted founding idea lives on in the MCL to this day. Over the past 25 years, the MCL and its network of scientific and industrial partners have advanced research in the field of Integrated Computational Materials, Process, and Product Engineering and have consistently set new standards in the development of fundamentals, experimental methods, simulation tools, software, workflows, and innovations in this field. The following article provides a brief overview of the historical development and current and future focus of the MCL.
