Definition of the problem

Nursing homes present specific normative tensions (or dilemmas) and ethical issues.

Arguments

For guidance of the moderator of ethics consultations in this setting, the EMMA (Applying ethics multiprofessionally and methodically) model was designed. Focus lies on the characteristics of the setting with reference to the key concept of privacy.

Conclusion

Due to its context sensitivity, EMMA is suitable for use in case consultations in a broad variety of out-of-hospital settings.
