Wenn die Therapeutin schwanger wird

The pregnancy of the therapist is an exceptional event that repeatedly gives rise to uncertainty with respect to the associated changes and how to deal with them. This article provides an overview of the influences described in the literature on patients, therapists and the therapeutic process with its typical effective factors of transference and countertransference. Based on these factors, this study attempts to approach the unique aspects of the pregnancy of the therapist, which in the author’s opinion lie mainly in the change in the therapist’s personal and professional identity and her new visibility. She must endure this visibility and at the same time come to terms with the realities pressing into the therapy. The challenge here is to find a balance between responding to the real problems and the processing of their importance for the patient. The article concludes with recommendations for the practice.
