<p>Pheromones are key to intraspecific communication in insects and, in Lepidoptera, are released by scent organs, also known as androconial organs, when restricted to males. In Hesperiidae, these structures are common on the wings and exhibit notable morphological diversity with taxonomic relevance. In contrast, abdominal androconial organs are exceptionally rare, and are known only from males of some Tagiadinae, Pyrginae and a single Hesperiinae species. Morphological analysis of males of <i>Mnasitheus submetallescens</i> (Hayward <CitationRef CitationID="CR12">1940</CitationRef>), a South American Hesperiinae skipper, revealed an abdominal androconial organ, in addition to the known forewing stigma. This study aims to report the occurrence and provide, for the first time, characterization of a tergum-associated androconial organ in a Hesperiidae species. The abdominal androconial organ of <i>M. submetallescens</i> consists of a patch of spatulate scales located on abdominal tergites II, III, and IV, along with a tuft of elongated, hair-like scales that originates from tergite I and overlies the patches of spatulate scales on tergites II and III. This represents only the second known instance of a tergum-associated abdominal androconial organ in the entire family. Our findings broaden the current understanding of morphological diversity in Hesperiidae and offer new insights into the evolutionary and taxonomic relevance of nonchromatic structural traits.</p>
