<p><i>Bradypus variegatus</i>, also known as the brown-throated Sloth, is a species that is vulnerable to habitat destruction due to its limited mobility and diurnal habits. As a result, there has been an increasing demand for medical care for this species, as well as for other arboreal animals. With that in mind, the aim of this study is to morphologically describe the heart of <i>Bradypus variegatus</i> to elucidate the specific characteristics related to the cardiac health of the species. Macroscopic and microscopic analysis of seven hearts from adult specimens of <i>B. variegatus</i> revealed distinct characteristics of this organ. Macroscopically, the heart was found to be small and rounded and consisted of four chambers. In terms of cardiac stratigraphy, the endocardium, myocardium, and epicardium were observed, along with the presence of an annulus fibrosus in the cardiac skeleton, composed of dense fibrous connective tissue. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the evolutionary adaptation of the <i>B. variegatus</i> heart to its environment and lifestyle. This study serves as a significant foundation for future research on the anatomy and cardiac physiology of Xenarthrans.</p>
