A novel strain energy density criterion for predicting crack initiation in mixed mode fractures of bone tissues
摘要
This study presents a novel mixed mode I/II strain energy density (SED) criterion derived from the governing equations of bone mechanics to enhance the predictive accuracy for crack initiation and propagation in mixed mode fractures of cracked bone tissues. Experimental validation was conducted using three-point bending tests on various bone types, including bovine trabecular bone, bovine tibia, and lamb trotter bone. The findings demonstrate that incorporating specific governing relations into the SED theory significantly improves predictions of crack initiation compared to traditional methods, underscoring the efficacy of the proposed criterion for understanding fracture behavior in bone.
