<p>The use of mechanical circulatory support devices for acute heart failure is on the rise. These devices significantly decrease mortality and morbidity when used before severe cardiac and systemic organ failure occur. Imaging is essential for ensuring the proper positioning of these devices. Chest X‑rays are routinely conducted for the initial assessment and ongoing monitoring of the position and integrity of mechanical circulatory support devices. They are often the first imaging modality to identify complications and/or the need for optimization associated with these systems. Computed tomography imaging is crucial for detecting intracardiac and extracardiac complications and the demand for optimization in patients with mechanical circulatory support devices. More comprehensive diagnostics of intracardiac and extracardiac complications are best achieved using computed tomography, especially when echocardiographic diagnostics are not sufficiently conclusive.</p>
