Herzklappenchirurgie – Literaturübersicht 2023

The literature published in 2023 in the field of heart valve diseases once again focused on the comparison between surgical and interventional procedures. Regarding aortic valve stenosis, an advantage for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in the early stages and an advantage for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in the later stages were confirmed by numerous studies. Only the Evolut low-risk study showed an early advantage over 4 years for TAVI in low-risk patients. In the field of mitral and tricuspid valves, the number of publications on interventional procedures significantly increased. A pattern emerges where clinical benefits correlate with the quality of repair, with residual regurgitation after repair being relevant over time. Although surgery is more invasive, it currently produces the highest repair rates and provides the longest durability of results. This article summarizes publications that are considered important by the authors. It does not claim to be comprehensive and is not free from individual interpretation but it provides current information for patient-specific decision making.
