Mahmut Gazi Yaşargil (1925–2025): a hundred years dedicated to neurosurgery from the Neurosurgery’s Man of the Century

Microsurgery allows surgeons to move with tremendous precision around the finest nerve endings and blood vessels to repair neural pathologies. Mahmut Gazi Yaşargil (1925–2025) was one of the most influential scientists in the use and dissemination of microsurgery in neurological surgery. For this reason, he was honored as “Neurosurgery’s Man of the Century” from an esteemed journal, Neurosurgery, in 1999. Yaşargil’s life, dedicated to neurosurgery and spent in the laboratory, may shed light on the scientific path that young medical candidates should follow. In this paper, we aimed to give information about Dr. Yaşargil and his outstanding contributions to the field of microsurgery.
