摘要

Cloth simulation has always become a trending and difficult research topic in computer animation, which is of great significance for improving the quality of computer animation and user experience. Cloth, as a flexible material object, can be seen almost everywhere in people’s daily lives. The reality and efficiency of cloth simulation directly determine the overall effect of computer animation. Simulating dynamic cloth realistically and efficiently has become a very challenging task. Cloth simulation involves a combination of a large range of techniques, such as cloth modeling, numerical integration, collision and contact, constraints. With the continuous development of computer software and hardware and the increasing demand for computer animation market, research on cloth simulation methods is receiving increasing attention, and a variety of cloth simulation methods are proposed to improve the reality and efficiency of cloth simulation. In this paper, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current progress toward cloth simulation. This paper concludes the related work of cloth simulation accuracy (friction and contact) and speed (e.g. method optimization, GPU acceleration) and summarizes the research and development of methods. We elaborate on the research progress of cloth modeling methods and physical-based methods used in cloth simulation, as well as the use and improvement of neural network and summarize the feature of different models and methods. In evaluation methodology, this paper selects several methods to make a corresponding comparison and provides some suggestions for learners to learn from.
