摘要

Central vein occlusion (CVO) in patients under 40 years old accounts for approximately 10–15% of all cases of CVO, The risk factor profile differs from that of older patients and requires further etiological clarification, including screening for thrombophilia and autoimmune diagnostics. In addition to the search for the known risk factors, patients should be specifically asked about consumption of e‑cigarettes, as according to the current evidence there is a plausible pathophysiological association between the consumption of e‑cigarettes containing nicotine and thromboembolic events. This is of particular relevance, as e-cigarettes are widely used among young people and their consumption continues to increase.
