Non-Targeted Metabolomics Study of Epimedium pubescens in Response to Light Stress

Epimedium pubescens is an important source of the traditional Chinese medicine Epimedii Folium (Yinyanghuo), with flavonoids as its primary bioactive compounds. Light intensity significantly influences secondary metabolism in E. pubescens. This study employed a non-targeted metabolomics approach to systematically analyze metabolic changes in E. pubescens under light stress. A total of 476 differential metabolites were identified, with flavonoids showing the most significant upregulation (17.86%), including 6-hydroxyluteolin, Pratenol A, and catechin derivatives. KEGG enrichment analysis revealed that pathways such as phenylalanine metabolism, flavone, and flavonol biosynthesis were significantly enriched, highlighting the role of secondary metabolite accumulation in the plant adaptation to light stress. These findings provide theoretical insights for optimizing cultivation practices and enhancing the medicinal quality of E. pubescens.
