Structural, optical, electrical and photocatalytic investigation of PANI/SnS2 polymer nanocomposites under visible light

Polyaniline/Tinsulfide (PANI/SnS2) polymer nanocomposite was tested for the decomposition of the Methylene Blue (MB) dye molecule. The sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The phase identification of pure SnS2 and PANI/SnS2 nanocomposites was confirmed by XRD analysis, and functional groups present in the sample were identified with the help of FT-IR spectroscopy. The formation of micro and nanostructure was confirmed by TEM analysis. The electrical conductivity of the prepared polymer nanocomposites was enhanced due to the interaction between Polyaniline (PANI) and Tin Sulfide (SnS2) which was confirmed by AC impedance spectroscopy. The photo-decomposition of PANI/SnS2 nanocomposites was investigated under natural sunlight for MB dye molecule. Almost the complete decomposition of MB dye occurred at 90 min.
