<p>Highly efficient and high quality pure copper welding with the blue diode laser, which has high optical absorption into pure copper, is expected to be realized. It is necessary to clarify the effect of laser induced plume on welding efficiency and quality in pure copper welding using 1.5&#xa0;kW blue diode laser. In this study, welding experiment and spectroscopic analysis were conducted while removing the plume with air knife to evaluate the impact of plume removal on welding of pure copper using 1.5&#xa0;kW blue diode laser. From the experimental results, it is clarified that the melt cross section increases as the plume is removed.</p>
