摘要

Functional disorders and painful alterations of the temporomandibular joints can already be observed in young orthodontic patients. This article examines the relationship between occlusion, dental intercuspidation, the position of the mandibular condyles, and temporomandibular joint function, as well as discussingthe influence of functional orthodontic treatment on condylar position within the glenoid fossa. A structured functional diagnostic examination enables the identification of both symptomatic and compensated alterations of the craniomandibular system. The current literature suggests that functional orthodontic therapy may be associated with changes in condylar position and adaptive remodeling of temporomandibular joint structures. Consideration of functional aspects in diagnosis and treatment planning requires specialized clinical expertise and, when appropriate, competent interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.
