摘要

Manuel medicine treats somatic dysfunctions and, together with other medical fields (e.g., physiotherapy and sport therapy), forms an important link pathomorphologically oriented orthopedic, rheumatologic, or neurosurgical diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. However, a sole focus on secondary somatic dysfunction when treating a chronic somatic disorder of the locomotor system is not sufficient to achieve good and sustainable treatment results. This article discusses the complexity of function and functional disorders as well as their relevance for disease development and the model of functional disorders. The aim is to improve the care of patients with chronic diseases of the locomotor system.
