Interdisciplinary collaboration is essential in modern healthcare, enabling rapid and efficient diagnoses and treatment initiation. In particular, the functional medicine approach that is taught in courses for manual medicine is lacking in classic medicine. This is often evident in common pediatric complaints. This article presents three exemplary cases. Case 1 describes an 18-month-old boy exhibiting a failure to thrive. After pediatric evaluation according to guidelines, no causes could be found. This resulted in an extremely stressful family situation. Manual examination revealed a functional disorder in the sense of ctemporomandibular joint dysfunction. Treating this led to the onset of weight gain. Case 2 shows the course of necessary headache clarification in a 10-year-old boy. Manual therapy was started at the same time. This led to an improvement in symptoms. Case 3 shows the opposite approach. Here, a manual examination was initially carried out. The inspection showed typical clinical signs of a genetic connective tissue disease. Further pediatric investigation was able to confirm this suspicion. This early diagnosis can help patients to live a normal lifespan. Interdisciplinary teamwork is desirable and should be easily accessible.
