Manuelle Medizin im Fach physikalische und rehabilitative Medizin – Medizinstudium und Facharztausbildung

Manual medicine as a medical qualification is a further training program which is reflected in the Zusatzweiterbildung Manuelle Medizin. It includes content that is not part of a specialist or specialization specification. In the medical degree program, it is not defined as an independent specialist area; here, it is part of cross-sectional area 12 (rehabilitation, physical medicine, and naturopathy). Interestingly, in many specializations in which diseases of the musculoskeletal system are an important part of the curriculum, neither knowledge or skills in the clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system nor competencies in manual medicine are required. This stands in contradiction to the need to teach manual medical functional thinking as a prerequisite to understanding multimodal interdisciplinary therapies for complex diseases and for prevention.
