摘要

In the 2020s, commercial fishing for true seals was revived in the Sea of Okhotsk in order to obtain raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. The main focus of the fishery is on the bearded seal. In the context of commercial fishing, there is a problem of rational use of this species of seal. In this regard, the monitoring of reproductive indicators is of the greatest practical importance, as one of the foundations of the reproduction of seal resources. In 2023, the reproductive potential of the bearded seal from the southwestern part of the Sea of Okhotsk was analyzed. The reproductive organs of 78 females were examined. The females reach maturity at the age of 5–6 years. However, due to the late timing of ovulation, most young individuals remain unfertilized, since by the time they are ready for mating, the period of spermatogenesis in males has already ended. The breeding process of the bearded seal in the south of the Sea of Okhotsk begins 1–2 months earlier than in more northern habitats, both in the Pacific and Atlantic sectors of their range. No significant differences were found in the intensity of reproduction of bearded seal after a period of many years of active fishing (up to 1990) and three decades after its cessation (2023).
