<p>The diversity and distribution of the lichenized fungus <i>Leptogium puberulum</i> (Ascomycota) have been widely studied; however, its association with Antarctic angiosperms and the potential impacts of these interactions remain unexplored. This study aimed to document and analyze the relationship between <i>L. puberulum</i> and the Antarctic grass <i>Deschampsia antarctica</i> on Byers Peninsula, Livingston Island, South Shetland Archipelago, Antarctica. Samples were photographed and collected using tweezers. Subsequently, they were transported frozen at − 20&#xa0;°C to Brazil. A total of 17 points of association between <i>L. puberulum</i> and <i>D. antarctica</i> were recorded in the studied site, predominantly on rocks near the beach. In all cases, foliar spots, leaf whitening, and grass dieback were observed, indicating that the interaction between these species may interfere with the growth and health of <i>D. antarctica</i>. This study reveals important insights into the ecological strategies of <i>L. puberulum</i>, shedding light on its ability to thrive in extreme environments and its impact on Antarctic flora. The findings underscore the ecological complexity of Antarctic ecosystems and contribute significantly to the understanding of lichen–plant interactions in this unique biome.</p>
