Zuschnitt Ophthalmopathologie: Bulbus oculi
摘要
Grossing of an enucleated eye (ocular bulb) is usually not a daily duty even in bigger departments of pathology. This can result in difficulties with precise orientation and technical performance.
ObjectivesThe approach for grossing an enucleated eye is well described in recent monographic publications of ophthalmic pathology. Because of the rarity of these specimens, these documents are not often available, especially in the grossing lab. Further, they require a thorough preparation in advance. This article offers a summary including a tabular overview and diagrams that can be used for practical application.
Materials and methodsTaking into account the clinico-pathological correlation, relevant information for grossing of enucleated eyes has been gathered from monografic publications including grossing in ophthalmic pathology.
ResultsThe table shows a structured procedure for eyeball grossing with descriptions of possible changes. The diagrams support orientation.
ConclusionsGrossing of an enucleated eye can be challenging with less routine. To ensure nothing of relevance is overlooked, a structured approach is shown here. The most important findings and clinical information are briefly outlined.
