摘要

The construction industry continuously seeks sustainable alternatives to traditional chemical additives to enhance concrete performance while reducing environmental impact. This work explores the potential of bio-based polycarboxylate superplasticizers synthesized from renewable resources, emphasizing their capability to improve concrete properties. A new bio-based polycarboxylate ether was synthesized starting from glycerin carbonate methacrylate monomer, and its performance as a concrete additive was assessed. The experimental procedures involved the synthesis of glycerin carbonate, its conversion to glycerin carbonate methacrylate and its subsequent copolymerization with methacrylic acid and itaconic acid. Superplasticizer was synthesized by ring-opening reaction of cyclic carbonate functionalities with amine-terminated polyether. The resulting polymer was characterized using FT-IR, 1H-NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA analyses. The results show that the molecular weight of bio-based PCE varies significantly depending on the ratios of initiator and chain transfer agent and the ratio of carbonate modified polymer to amine functional polyether. Performance tests, including the spread table test and compression strength determination, demonstrated the efficacy of the synthesized superplasticizer in cement mortar. The findings suggest that bio-based polycarboxylate ethers offer a viable and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional additives in the construction industry.
