Bio compounds reinforced poly (O-anisidine) (POA) and POA copolymer composites: a versatile platform for anticorrosive coating
摘要
Poly (O-anisidine) composites are a class of advanced materials that combine the properties of POA and other materials to produce a product with unique characteristics. Here, chemical oxidation polymerization was carried out to synthesize the plain POA and its three composite materials, namely POA-chitosan, POA-chitosan-curcumin, and POA-chitosan-curcumin-chloroaniline. Various characterization methods such as FTIR, XRD, and SEM were used to access the final properties and end groups of the prepared samples. For the coating application, epoxy resin was used along with hardener (Replamide 340) and applied to the mild steel panels. The coating is made by reinforcement of 2 and 4% (w/w) of formulation. The applied coating is tested by TGA, anticorrosion, and mechanical testing. Two anticorrosion tests, namely the salt spray test and EIS, were executed. Multifarious mechanical testing along with chemical and solvents resistance tests were completed with satisfactory results. Composite material’s coat gives admirable results when compared with plain epoxy. All the formulations showed good adhesion on the metal substrate. Among all the formulations, POA-chitosan-curcumin-chloroaniline composite (2%) gives the best anticorrosive properties, i.e., sustains well in a corrosive environment. Along with this, it gives good scratch hardness (1.8 kg) as compared to plain epoxy coating (1.2 kg).
