<p>A novel marine bacterium, designated as strain FQ<sup>T</sup>, was successfully isolated from a seawater sample taken from the vicinity of a nuclear power plant. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain FQ<sup>T</sup> belonged to the genus <i>Gordonia</i>, with the highest sequence similarity to strain <i>Gordonia phosphorivorans</i> CCM 7957<sup>T</sup> (97.4%), followed by strains <i>Gordonia phthalatica</i> KCTC 39933<sup>T</sup> (97.4%), strain <i>Gordonia pseudamarae</i> CON9<sup>T</sup> (97.4%) and strain <i>Gordonia amarae</i> NBRC 15530<sup>T</sup> (97.3%). Cell was Gram-stain positive, aerobic, catalase-positive, oxidase-negative, rod-shaped, and non-motile. Growth was observed at pH 4.0–8.5, salinities of 0–7% and temperatures of 15–42&#xa0;°C. The G + C content of the chromosomal DNA was 69.8%. The major respiratory quinone was MK-9(H<sub>2</sub>). The principal fatty acids (&gt; 5%) were C<sub>16:0</sub>, C<sub>18:0</sub> 10-methyl, Summed Feature 3 (C<sub>16:1</sub><i>ω</i>7<i>c/ω</i>6<i>c</i>), C<sub>19:0</sub> anteiso, C<sub>14:0</sub>, and C<sub>18:1</sub><i>ω</i>9<i>c</i>. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), phosphatidylinositol (PI), phosphatidylinositol mannosides (PIM). The genomic relatedness between strain FQ<sup>T</sup> and its closest relatives was quantitatively assessed. Digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values were estimated as 20.4% (vs. strain <i>Gordonia phthalatica</i> KCTC 39933ᵀ), 19.9% (vs. strain <i>Gordonia mangrovi</i> CCTCC AA 2019074ᵀ), 20.3% (vs. strain <i>Gordonia tangerina</i> MCCC 1A18727ᵀ), and 19.8% (vs. strain <i>Gordonia hankookensis</i> ON-33ᵀ). Correspondingly, the average nucleotide identity (ANI) values were calculated as 76.2%, 74.1%, 74.0%, and 73.9%, respectively, against the same set of type strains. The combined genotypic and phenotypic data show that strain FQ<sup>T</sup> represents a novel species within the genus <i>Gordonia</i>, for which the name <i>Gordonia marina</i> sp. nov. is proposed, with the type strain FQ<sup>T</sup> (= MCCC 1A21950<sup>T</sup> = KCTC 59461<sup>T</sup>).</p>

Gordonia marina sp. nov., Isolated from Coastal Seawater
