<p>A yellow-pigmented bacterium, designated as strain R45<sup>T</sup>, was isolated from a volatile organic compounds treatment system in Guangzhou, China. Cells of the strain were Gram-stain-negative, catalase and oxidase-positive, rod-shaped, without flagellum, non-motile, and non-spore-forming. Strain R45<sup>T</sup> shared high 16&#xa0;S rRNA gene sequence similarity with <i>Dyella jiangningensis</i> KACC 16,539<sup>T</sup> (97.5%), <i>Fulvimonas yonginensis</i> KACC 16,952<sup>T</sup> (97.4%), <i>Fulvimonas soli</i> LMG 19,981<sup>T</sup> (97.3%), and <i>Dyella terrae</i> KACC 12,748<sup>T</sup> (97.3%). Phylogenetic trees based on 16&#xa0;S rRNA gene and genome sequences showed that strain R45<sup>T</sup> formed a distinct clade close to <i>Fulvimonas soli</i> LMG 19,981<sup>T</sup>, suggesting that strain R45<sup>T</sup> represents a novel species in the genus <i>Fulvimonas</i>. The major fatty acids of strain R45<sup>T</sup> were iso-C<sub>15:0</sub>, iso-C<sub>16:0</sub>, iso-C<sub>17:0</sub> and iso-C<sub>17:1</sub>ω9<i>c</i>. The polar lipids included diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphorylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, two unidentified phospholipids, and an unidentified lipid. The G + C content in DNA was 70.0% and the respiratory quinone was Q-8. These cellular components supported the affiliation of strain R45<sup>T</sup> in the genus <i>Fulvimonas</i>. Furthermore, strain R45<sup>T</sup> shared an average nucleotide identity value of 83.9% and a digital DNA-DNA hybridization value of 37.0% with <i>Fulvimonas soli</i> LMG 19,981<sup>T</sup> which confirmed that strain R45<sup>T</sup> is a novel species in the genus <i>Fulvimonas</i>. Therefore, the name <i>Fulvimonas volatilium</i> sp. nov. is proposed for this novel species. The type strain is R45<sup>T</sup> (= GDMCC 1.3236<sup>T</sup> = KCTC 92296<sup>T</sup>).</p>
