摘要

Background

Although cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is very effective in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder, not all patients benefit sufficiently from the planned duration of treatment.

Objective

Does extending CBT beyond the regular treatment period lead to a significant reduction in the severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms?

Method

Analysis of evaluation data from routine treatment procedures that did not lead to remission after 40 sessions and were extended.

Results

During the extension phase, symptom severity decreased with a large effect size and 43% of the patients achieved remission.

Conclusion

Extension of CBT appears to be a sensible option in cases of insufficient therapeutic success in routine treatment.
