摘要

The second part of the overview of clinically relevant findings in attachment research first focusses on psychotherapy and outlines some fields of psychotherapy research where important knowledge has been gained on the role of attachment characteristics. These comprise relationships with therapy outcome and the therapeutic alliance, changes of attachment during therapy, the role of attachment on the side of the therapist and studies dealing with countertransference aspects in the context of different attachment styles. Attachment issues have gained importance not only within group psychotherapy; several new treatment approaches were developed based on the research on attachment, such as mentalization-based psychotherapy or attachment-based approaches in family therapy. Despite enormous progress in attachment research, there are still many open questions and criticism of the theory. These are finally discussed with a critical view on the measuring attachment characteristics.
