摘要

Separation anxiety disorder (SEPAD) is characterized by an age-atypical anxiety or fear of spatial separation from reference persons, which is usually accompanied by a pronounced psychosocial burden or impairment for those affected. Contrary to previous assumptions, SEPAD is not exclusively reserved for childhood and adolescence but can occur throughout the entire lifespan. Accordingly, in the 11th edition of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11), it is assigned to the group of anxiety and fear-related disorders. This article provides an overview of epidemiological data, risk factors known so far, current disease models, the (differential) diagnostic approach and evidence-based psychotherapeutic and pharmacotherapeutic treatment approaches regarding SEPAD. The clinical symptoms are illustrated by case examples for children and adults.
