One could gain the impression that people who nowadays visit our practices suffer from other types of conflicts than those 30 or 40 years ago. For example, the superego conflicts nowadays seem to have another gestalt.

The digital networks demand from the subject a permanent control of the appearance, a permanent posing in front of the eyes of imagined objects. This could practically compulsorily lead to an introjection of an inner poser, which in some circumstances is vastly different from the real self of the subject. On the one hand the self can get into overload situations as it must satisfy the supposed object and on the other hand is forced into extreme loneliness as it simultaneously threatens to lose contact with itself. This would also entail a challenge for psychotherapists as we must change our therapeutic concepts and also our language in order to reach the people.
