Highly reliable resource-saving differential protection for 6.3–160 MVA transformer–rectifier converter substations
摘要
The paper describes the differential protection for 6.3–160 MVA transformer–rectifier converter substations (TRCS) supplying such DC consumers as electrolysis plants, arc furnaces, and DC electric drives. It is based on reed switches and magnetoresistors and does not use current transformers. This makes it possible to save copper, steel, and insulating materials in amounts unprecedented for relay protection. Reed switches and magnetoresistors are mounted at safe distances from the AC and DC busbars, respectively, of a TRCS. Current is supplied to the control winding of a reed switch and changes with a change in the resistance of a magnetoresistor. A magnetizing inrush in the transformer of the TRCS is determined by the number of reed switch actuations, which enables distinguishing it from short-circuit current. The correct operation is ensured by selecting the protection parameters in accordance with the found relationships between the magnetic inductions affecting reed switches and magnetoresistor and is confirmed by the simulation results. The parameters are determined which make it possible to use the protection for TRCS of different power. The protection is not inferior to currently used protections in terms of sensitivity and speed and surpasses them in estimated reliability.
