摘要

The conventional reliance on non-renewable energy (NRE) sources, particularly coal-based thermal power plants, for domestic, commercial, and industrial electricity generation has well-documented shortcomings including low efficiency, harmful waste production leading to environmental pollution, and contributions to adverse climate conditions. In response, considerable research is now dedicated to harnessing renewable energy (RE) such as wind, solar and hydro power for more effective and eco-friendly electrical production. This study offers an extensive assessment of a proposed solar photovoltaic (PV) system intended for installation at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur. The analysis encompasses technical, socioeconomic, and environmental dimensions of the project, focusing on the objective of utilizing green solar energy for powering the campus of the institute. This initiative is expected to significantly curb emissions and reduce energy costs. The research employs data related to ambient temperature and hourly solar radiation and is divided into two sections: one evaluates shading effects on the PV panels, while the other disregards shading. A meticulous comparative analysis using PVsyst software highlights the advantages of an unshaded PV system, emphasizing its superiority over the shaded counterpart.
