<p>In today’s digital world, individuals generate vast amounts of personal data every day. A&#xa0;Bitkom study found that in Germany, approximately 66% of persons 16-29 years old use a&#xa0;smartwatch at least occasionally. Among those 30-49 years old, the figure is around 50%, while 30% of those aged 50–64 years and 14% of people over&#xa0;65 years still use such devices. Modern smartwatches are more than just fitness trackers and communication tools; they function as networked minicomputers that continuously collect personal data. Depending on the model, they record GPS locations, health metrics (heart and respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, basal metabolic rate, activity energy, and sleep), communication logs, step counts, and movement patterns. These digital traces can be crucial in criminal investigations; however, questions remain regarding their reliability and forensic value. A&#xa0;case study examines their evidentiary significance and potential limitations.</p>
