A case of fatal hypothermia involving suvorexant and zopiclone
摘要
We present an autopsy case where death occurred under the influence of suvorexant and zopiclone. Many empty packets of prescription drugs were found in the kitchen trash of the deceased. Frost erythema was observed on the shoulders and knees. Toxicological examination was performed using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Quantitative analysis showed concentrations of paroxetine, suvorexant and zopiclone in femoral venous blood of 0.01 µg/mL, 1.18 µg/mL, and 0.22 µg/mL, respectively. Autopsy findings revealed bright red blood in the left heart chamber, with a clear color difference between blood in the left and right heart chambers. Oxygen saturation of blood in the left and right heart chambers was 59.4% and 13.4%, respectively. We concluded that the cause of death in this victim was hypothermia resulting from unconsciousness following acute drug poisoning.
