Occupational safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding requires cooperation between the employer, the occupational physician and the pregnant or breastfeeding employee.

This work is based on a selective literature search. Practical recommendations were developed.

The employer assesses the workplace for hazards relevant to maternity protection. This should include the danger of infection and dangerous substances. A list should contain all activities that pregnant and breastfeeding women can carry out.

The manual participation in an autopsy can be possible. This is subject to a risk assessment by the employer. Occupational physicians can provide support.
