摘要

Introduction and Hypothesis

Sacrocolpopexy is the gold standard non-obliterative surgical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP). While laparoscopy offers shorter hospital stays, open sacrocolpopexy with enhanced recovery protocols may achieve similar outcomes at lower cost. Evidence on patient-reported outcomes and satisfaction following open sacrocolpopexy with 1-day hospitalization remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate subjective effectiveness and postoperative satisfaction in patients undergoing open sacrocolpopexy with 1-day hospital stay.

Methods

An ambispective cohort study was conducted of 106 consecutive patients who underwent open sacrocolpopexy with planned 1-day discharge between January 2020 and December 2023 at two centers. Patients were contacted via telephone to complete a structured questionnaire incorporating validated items from the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI), Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I), and Surgical Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSQ-8). On the basis of an expected satisfaction rate of 80% with 10% margin of error, aimed to obtain ≥ 62 respondents.

Results

Seventy-seven patients (72.6% response rate) completed the survey. The majority (92.2%, 95% CI 84.6–96.8%) reported no vaginal bulging sensation postoperatively. Symptom improvement or resolution was reported by 94.8% (95% CI 87.8–98.6%) of patients. Satisfaction with surgical results was 90.9% (95% CI 82.9–96.0%), and satisfaction with the surgical process was 92.2% (95% CI 84.6–96.8%). Additionally, 93.5% would choose the surgery again, and 90.9% would recommend it to others.

Conclusions

Open abdominal sacrocolpopexy with 1-day hospitalization demonstrates high subjective effectiveness and excellent patient satisfaction, representing a viable option particularly for resource-limited settings.
