The Effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapy Combined with Biofeedback Electrical Stimulation on Postpartum Stress Urinary Incontinence: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

To explore the improvement effect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy combined with biofeedback electrical stimulation on postpartum stress urinary incontinence through a meta-analysis, so as to provide a more reliable evidence-based basis for clinical treatment.
MethodsA comprehensive search was conducted in eight databases, including CNKI, WanFang, VIP, SinoMed, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase, for randomized controlled studies published from the establishment of the database until March 2025. Mean difference (MD), risk ratio (RR), and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were used to analyze relevant variables.
ResultsA total of 12 studies involving 1121 patients were included in this study. The analysis results showed that the combined therapy of TCM and biofeedback electrical stimulation had significant advantages in improving the clinical efficacy of patients with postpartum stress urinary incontinence (RR 1.20, 95% CI 1.14–1.26, P < 0.00001). It could effectively reduce the 1-h pad leakage volume (MD −1.82, 95% CI −2.77 to −0.86, P = 0.0002), improve the pelvic floor muscle strength score (MD 0.63, 95% CI 0.47–0.79, P < 0.00001), and reduce the score of the ICI-Q-SF (MD −1.92, 95% CI −2.30 to −1.53, P < 0.00001).
ConclusionThe combination of TCM therapy and biofeedback electrical stimulation can effectively reduce the symptoms of patients with postpartum stress urinary incontinence. The results of this study provide important references for the selection of clinical treatment options for postpartum stress urinary incontinence.
