Investigation of the effect of electrode materials on Arc Discharge Machining of 40% SiCp/Al composites
摘要
SiCp/Al composites are popular in various fields because they own the comprehensive characteristics of both aluminum matrix and silicon carbide particles. In order to explore the effect of electrode materials on Arc Discharge Machining, in this article, the research of arc discharge temperature field was conducted by establishing simulations model of arc discharge temperature field with different electrode materials, and using copper, 45 steel, W70Cu30, and graphite as electrodes. The simulation indicates the pit depth of copper, 45 steel, W70Cu30, and graphite electrode is in order from deep to shallow. Comparative experiments on the machining of grooves with a depth of 3 mm and a length of 60 mm were carried out using hollow tubular electrodes under the machining conditions of a discharge voltage of 25 V, a feed rate of 30 mm/min, and a working medium of a water-based working fluid. The research shows that graphite as an arc discharge tool features high machining efficiency and good machining quality, which provides a theoretical basis for the selection of electrode materials in Arc Discharge Machining mode and is for information.
