Enhancing efficiency in PCB assembly for the leading global electronics manufacturing services firm: a TRIZ and Ant Colony Optimization approach

摘要

In the dynamic landscape of Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS), leading firms are challenged to uphold efficiency and quality in the assembly of printed circuit boards (PCB). With PCB technology rapidly advancing and becoming increasingly integral to various industries, there is a pressing demand for improved assembly techniques that can match the pace of innovation. This study tackles the essential requirement for enhanced precision and speed in the PCB assembly operations of the world’s preeminent EMS provider. It addresses the challenges posed by time delays and the intricate coordination needed among component feeding, pick-and-place systems, and PCB positioning. Through the innovative combination of TRIZ methodology and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), the research presents a simulation-based strategy for streamlining assembly paths. This approach empowers engineers to determine and apply the most effective parameters, achieving a notable 29.86% reduction in assembly time. Beyond boosting operational efficiency and supporting strategic planning in PCB assembly, this optimization also makes a significant environmental contribution by reducing energy consumption. The integration of simulation, ACO, and TRIZ techniques not only establishes new efficiency benchmarks for the EMS industry but also demonstrates a commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices, aligning productivity enhancements with environmental stewardship.
