摘要

The physics of Ti-6Al-4 V titanium alloy chip formation during orthogonal cutting is still a prominent research field while considering its modelling. The accuracy of the numerical machining simulations primarily depends on the choice of adapted constitutive material behaviour model and thermal properties. This paper allows studying the material parameters associated with a modified Johnson–Cook (MJC) material model and thermal properties based on chip segmentation analysis. Later, the model’s ability to correctly simulate the machining is evaluated by comparing it to experimental cutting on a Ti-6Al-4 V alloy specimen. The experiments are performed on an instrumented orthogonal cutting bench, which allowed cutting force measurement and chip geometry analysis during the orthogonal cutting process within a wide range of cutting speed and feed configurations.
