摘要

A connection between cartilage damage and ligament instability in the knee joint is widely accepted among the medical profession. Logical conclusions suggest that there is a relevant connection. This review article aims to present considerations regarding the influence of ligament instability in the knee joint on the success of cartilage regeneration therapy. All relevant ligament structures are taken into account; however, there is currently no direct comparative study on the immediate influence of ligament instability in the knee on the clinical results of cartilage regeneration measures. In principle, the factors influencing cartilage can be deduced from considerations or by translation from biomechanical and clinical studies on the effects of ligament instability on “healthy” and thus resistant cartilage. Based on these considerations, a clinical algorithm is presented.
