摘要

The femoral torsion is defined by the angle in the axial plane between the femoral neck and the dorsal tangent line at the femoral condyles. An increased antetorsion of the femur substantially affects the biomechanics of the patellofemoral joint and can lead to patellofemoral malalignment causing pain, instability or cartilage degeneration. In recent years, growing scientific evidence for the efficacy of torsional osteotomy at the distal femur has developed. The present review explains the basic problem and the diagnostics of femoral torsion abnormalities as well as the indications and surgical techniques for torsional corrections at the distal femur.
