<p>Systematic review articles and meta-analyses play an important role in evidence-based medicine by systematically collecting, evaluating and synthesizing scientific evidence; however, the validity largely depends on the methodological rigor and the quality of the included studies. This article provides an introduction to the methodology of systematic review articles as well as a&#xa0;critical examination of the methodological approaches.</p>

Systematic review articles and meta-analyses play an important role in evidence-based medicine by systematically collecting, evaluating and synthesizing scientific evidence; however, the validity largely depends on the methodological rigor and the quality of the included studies.
