摘要

Overuse syndromes of the shoulder occur not only in professional athletes but also in occupations with regular overhead activities. This leads to the high relevance in orthopedic sports and trauma medicine. The term overuse syndrome encompasses both functional and structural pathologies, the knowledge of which is essential to provide adequate treatment. The primary treatment is normally conservative; however, if the clinical state does not improve despite adequate physiotherapy, a search for a structural pathology must be conducted, which may need to be surgically treated. In the case of severe structural damage, such as a rotator cuff tear, a direct surgical treatment can also be indicated.
