摘要

Greater trochanteric pain syndrome is often caused by gluteal tendinopathy or partial rupture. Lateral hip pain aggravated by typical activities of daily living including walking up and down stairs, one leg stance and sleeping on the side are among the typical symptoms. A thorough medical history and clinical examination using various test procedures are the key to the diagnosis. In addition, an X‑ray is usually taken and an ultrasound will depict the lesion of the tendon. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is performed if further information is needed. Conservative treatment is initially carried out in stages over 3 months with isometric and eccentric strengthening of the hip abductors, followed by a pain-adapted return to daily activities.
