摘要

The postoperative 30-day mortality after the index procedure is the third leading cause of death worldwide after heart disease and stroke [24]. In elective orthopedic surgery the 30-day mortality rate is less than 1% [4]but postoperative complications can often be devastating. In the era of qualitative healthcare the implementation of strategies to stratify risk and optimize the allocation of healthcare resources to improve postoperative outcomes is of critical economic importance. This article explores the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the risk assessment in orthopedic surgery as part of the holistic decision-making process to improve the outcomes in the healthcare system.
