Trauma und sexuelle Gesundheit
摘要
Traumatic experiences in the course of life are a profound experience for many women. They can often have a lasting impact on physical, mental and sexual health. Persistent genitopelvic and other functional physical complaints may indicate that psychological or psychosocial causes are significant in addition to physical ones. Sexual health is an essential part of general well-being and sexual self-determination. In everyday clinical practice, questions about limitations are asked too rarely. Affected women usually do not bring up the topics on their own. Feelings of guilt, shame and failure cause women to remain silent. A trauma-sensitive, resource-oriented and sexual medical history enables connections between complaints and previous traumatic experiences to be identified and responded to appropriately. Appreciating and classifying the symptoms as normal reactions to stress are important therapeutic tools that can often be successful even in tightly scheduled appointments. Gynaecological practices can also contribute to prevention by providing information about sexual violence, making information material available and referring affected patients to specialised assistance and support services. A holistic treatment approach is required, involving close cooperation between different disciplines. Recognising the stress and identifying treatment options can be a first step towards relief.
