摘要

Centres for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC centres) play a special role in the field of gynaecological oncology. They are not only aimed at patients with a manifest tumour disease, but also at women with a genetic risk of disease and their family members. Their mission includes not only providing care in the event of illness, but above all offering risk-adjusted prevention services. This distinguishes them fundamentally from traditional organ cancer centres. However, the unique selling point of HBOC centres is not solely their care mandate. They are part of the German Consortium for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer, in which clinical care and scientific research are inextricably linked. This concept of knowledge-generating care is an integral part of the certification process and represents a special feature that other types of centres have not yet seen in this form. Thus, the HBOC centres not only provide care structures, but also research structures that generate new findings and feed them directly back into care.
