Increasingly, benign diseases requiring gonadotoxic or surgical therapy or genetic predispositions with an increased risk of premature ovarian insufficiency also represent an indication for fertility-preserving measures. Interdisciplinary awareness of this topic should be increased in order to identify these patients at an early stage. However, the available data, e.g., on cost–benefit analyses, risks, and subsequent utilization of stored tissue or gametes, are still very limited. Information about an age-dependent reduced ovarian reserve and family planning that is not too late should generally be provided in the sense of “fertility awareness.”
