摘要

Clinical chorioamnionitis or Triple I, mostly as a result of preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), is a potentially life-threatening pregnancy complication for the mother and the unborn child. During diagnosis and management, the obstetricians in charge must weigh the potential benefits of prolonging the pregnancy against the risks of infection and/or inflammation. The predictive value of routine clinical and laboratory diagnostics and monitoring parameters is limited, with the result that up to every fifth newborn after PPROM still develops early onset neonatal sepsis (EONS). The choice of the optimal time of delivery and close interdisciplinary collaboration between obstetrics and neonatology are, therefore, key in the management of intrauterine infection and inflammation.
